Scientific Meeting "Collapse or Sustainability? Ecological Integrity as a Fundamental Norm of Law and Governance"  Print

The scientific meeting "Collapse or Sustainability? Ecological Integrity as a Fundamental Norm of Law and Governance", was organized by EKePEK in June 23rd 2015. Klaus Bosselmann, Professor at the University of Auckland Faculty Law and Director of the New Zealand Centre for Environmental Law, was the Key-note Speaker. Prof. Bossemann’s speech was commented by Professor Ev. Raftopoulos (Panteion Uni.), Assistant Professor Ch. Koutalakis (University of Athens) and Assistant Professor V. Karageorgou (Panteion Uni.), who was also responsible for the co-ordination of the Meeting. The event was opened and presided by Professor Is. Kriari, Vice-rector of Panteion University.


The main points of the Key-Note Speech were the following:

* The dynamics of the global crisis (with its environmental, social and financial/ economic facets) and the ability of states and governments to respond to it.

* The recognition of ecological integrity and sustainability as ground norms so that the economic/ financial system takes into account the planet boundaries.

* The role of International Law and Jurisprudence to this end.

* The investigation of the role of corporations in the open economy era.


The event, which was hosted by the Institute of International Relations of Panteion University, concluded with an open discussion between the speakers and the audience.
